This dedicated team provided adult and family clinics, school clinics, and health promotion/education in San Andrés Ceballos, La Plazuela, and Santiago Zamora. They also presented a check in San Adrés Ceballos to cover the cost of new ecofiltro inserts for the families water filters. They donated and installed woodstoves and participated in the Lenten celebrations and processions, enjoying the beautiful Lenten alfombras (carpets).
This dedicated team of nurses, nurse practitioners, and nursing students screened children at the large school in San Pedro Yepocapa. For the first time ever, the team began a music program at the school in Santiago de Zamora. Our Nurse Community Partnership donors funded the cost of sixty recorders. Dr. Goodman helped the students to learn to play two songs. Some of the children had played recorders before, and were able to play the Guatemala national anthem! Quite impressive. Many of the team members closed out this amazing week by climbing the volcano, Volcan Pacuaré.
This was such a fun trip. So many of our team members had already been with us multiple times, so everyone blended right into the group and worked as a great team. We conducted student screenings in San Luisito and San Lorenzo el Tehar. We also had the privilege of spending a lovely day at Obras Sociales of Hombres y Mujeres en Ación. Amilcar Vielman showed us around their beautiful clinic, complete with examination rooms, pharmacy, dentistry room, social worker, and offices. We then toured their education building and were treated to a delicious lunch prepared by the students of their chef school. We saw the new classroom which our Nurse Community Partnership donors helped to fund. We spent a morning and lunch with our wonderful friends in Santiago de Zamora. Many of the team finished off the week by climbing the volcano.
